Great Gramma and Gramma Rose, and Great grandsons and grandson

Last Thursday, Howard drove up to Berea, KY and picked up our grandson, Josh.  He has just finished his freshman year there.  He is working there for the summer, but didn't need to be to work until today.  On Friday morning we went and picked strawberries.  We picked 8 quarts.  They sure have been good.  Friday afternoon we went to the Nashville airport and picked up my mom.  She flew in from Montana.  Saturday, Josh helped Grandpa do some yard work in the morning. They trimmed the cypress trees and the boxwood hedge.  They also do some weeding.

Josh brought us some gifts that me made for us in Tech class.  We really like them.

A picture frame with the college stamp on it.

A key holder with our name on it.

Sunday we had two meetings right after church and Josh brought Gramma home and they had lunch together.

Yesterday we took Josh back up to Berea.  Gramma rode with us.  It took us 4 1/2 hours to get there with a detour because of a bridge being repaired.  The boys unloaded Josh's things and took them up to his room and then we had a picnic.  Matt came down from No. KY with Ryan so they could see Gramma Rose.

We had made macaroni salad and we had strawberry shortcake.  A good picnic!

Erik's graduation

Last Friday, May 14, we went to Erik's graduation.  He graduated from the New Covenant Tutorial.  They had 12 in their graduation class.

One of the neat things that the parents do is a blessing for their child.  That was very touching to be a part of that. Here are some pictures from the event.

The Larry Graubner's left the next day for London and Paris!  They got into London before the airport was close from the ash from the volcano in Iceland.

Mother's Day

Mother's Dad started out with low carb waffles that I really like.  Howard mixed fresh raspberries, blackberries and strawberries together.  I put that on the waffle and topped with fat free cool whip.  Yummy.

After church we went over to Larry's house.  He has a group of friends that get together for Mother's Day every year and the guys do all the grilling and cooking and the kids help with the clean up.  This is the 3rd year we have been invited to join them.  Larry ask Howard to bake pies, so he spent Saturday baking 11 pies.  Two of the pies were for Mark's birthday on Sat night.

He made pumpkin, lemon meringue, rhubarb, cherry and strawberry and  raspberry rhubarb.

When we came home in the late afternoon we put together a cabinet that I stained, finished and painted for our bathroom.  I wanted more storage in there.  I think it blends in well with the cabinets that were already there.

Howard got me some beautiful roses on Saturday/  I divided them up and put them different places in the house.  He also got me a new book and a couple of flags for my holder outside.

I talked to the kids and I called Mom.  It was a good day!

Rain, rain and more rain

This is the third time I've worked on this post.  I would get called away from the computer, or had to do something else on the computer and I lost it.  I am going to finish it now!  Last Friday, Brett, Laurie, Marie (Brett's mom) and five kids came down to our house.  We enjoyed having them here.

Saturday we were all going over to Dunlap to look at a house that Brett and Laurie are thinking of buying.  Howard had a men's retreat.  It started raining shortly after Howard left and right after we left.  We were going east so we kind of stayed ahead of it.  We spent a couple of hours over there and then went out to lunch.  Howard called about that time and said it had rained pretty much most of the time.  We headed back home.  About the time we got to Murfreesboro is started really coming down.  Cars were being very careful and had their flashers.  We were hearing reports of possible tornado in La Vergne and flooding in the area.  We got home just as Howard was getting home. The retreat let out early because of the rains.

Sunday morning Brett, Laurie and family had to leave to go home.  They could not go through Nashville.  I-24 had 150 cars flooded on it and the interstate was not open.  They went on some back roads and got over to 840 and took it over to I-40 and went east toward Knoxville.  It rained hard Sunday afternoon and evening.  This is what greeted us when we got home from lunch after church.

The water is coming around the side of the yard toward the front yard.

 Our front yard

The rest of the front yard.

Water is coming down off the lots in back of us, but the drainage ditch is full.  Just too much water too fast.

It is filling up the back yard and covering the patio.  It did not get high enough for the patio.

The water went down Sunday night when the rains tapered off.

We received 14 inches of rain in 36 hours.  That is a 1/4 of our yearly rainfall.  It's the wettest May on record and we were only two days into the month.  Nashville has really been hit.  The Cumberland was at 55 ft and normal is 16 ft.  A lot of places in Nashville and out lying areas  have been flooded.  We are very thankful we did not have any damage.

We have had beautiful weather this week.  Today is close to 90 degrees, but we hear a cold front is coming in today, so it will be cooler tomorrow.

Happy 90th birthday

We celebrated Mom's birthday on Saturday.  We had dinner at the Crown Plaza and ate in a private dinning room, the Montana Sky.  We had a beautiful view of the city. As it got dark the lights were beautiful.
Mom enjoyed having her kids with here. We have not all been together since Dad died 8 years ago.

Texas Bluebonnets

We had a wonderful week near Austin, TX.  Our friends, Bob and Mary, from CA invited us to join them at their time share when the bluebonnets were blooming.  We did pick the right week.
This is one of my favorites

I did not know what the Texas bluebonnets were until I looked it up online after Bob and Mary asked us to join them.  We did a lot of sight seeing also.  One day we spent in San Antonio and went to the Alamo and walked the river walk.

We also visited the LBJ boyhood home, the LBJ ranch and home where he was born.  We went to the LBJ library in Austin, too.  We visited the capitol building one day in Austin.  We drove over to Fredricksburg.   We enjoyed all the flowers we saw in bloom through out our time there.

I think this was called a prickly poppy.

Spring has Arrived

We have had a beautiful spring.  We had two days last week that were actually 86 degrees.  It was low humidity and it was so nice to have all the windows opened up.  My tulips were really pretty this year.

I love these two color ones.

We got our garden all ready to put in and last Saturday we planted.  It's a little early, but it looks like our weather will be OK, so we are chancing it.  We put in tomatoes, cukes, yellow squash, zucchini, peppers, radishes and green beans.

The Bradford pear trees have been so beautiful this year.  I love the row of them along this street.

These trees are at the entrance of one of our friends house, not too far from us.

Come visit us sometime in the spring.  It is breathtaking.

Ending 2017

It has been awhile since I have blogged, so I thought I would just do a catch up.  We had Thanksgiving at our house this year  Brett, Lauri...
