Alaska State Fair

Well yesterday we got to do something I've wanted to do ever since we've been coming up to Wasilla.
We went to the Alaska State Fair.

I've been interested in seeing some of the big vegetables.  Most of the really big ones will be coming in later next week.  But, we did get to see some.

This rutabaga was 81.55 pounds

This head of cabbage was 102.4 pounds

This turnip was 22.75 pounds.  Notice the normal size one in front of it.

I had never heard of a flat head cabbage

These are some interesting vegetables we saw.

Romanesco Broccoli

The flowers were beautiful

One of the men in the church here had his tractors on display.

We had never heard of a Sears Tractor.  A man from Wisconsin brought this one.

We enjoyed walking though the 4-H building.  We liked the quilts on display and the canning.

We watched a video of some of the original colonists that came to the area in 1935 and settled Palmer.

We enjoyed some Halibut and Fries for our lunch.

This was an interesting pic someone made from state license plates in the shape of the state.

How many state fairs can you go to and have these views when you leave?

It was a fun day for us.  This was on our way back to the church, but it didn't rain.
