Visiting Family

My sister Becky and her husband Keith came down and Keith made a rocking chair for their grandson that had just turned a year old.  It was so fun to have them here.  Becky and I enjoyed just being together.

One night we fixed a raclette cheese dinner.  We first had it when we visited missionary friends in Paris, France.  They liked the meal like we do.

I'm the oldest of my siblings and Becky is the youngest.  We are 15 years apart, almost to the day.  Becky is such a caring person!!

Before we take off for Alaska for two months we wanted to visit the family that lives within driving distance.  Our first visit was to drive up to N. KY and visit Matt, Amy, Abigail and Evelyn.  We had missed Evelyn's birthday, but took her rocking chair up a couple of weeks late.

Both girls now have a rocker.

Abigail's hair is getting so long.  She has quite a bit of curl, but her sister has tight ringlets.
Both girls like to be read to, so Grandma and Grandpa enjoyed that.

Both girls love their fruit.  I made sure we had strawberries, blueberries and raspberries for them.

We had to make a trip to Home Depot and Abigail  got to ride in Grandpa's truck!!

We celebrated Abigail's 3rd birthday while we were there.

Matt has been super busy, because the Ark Encounter is opening next month.  He is in charge of ticketing for both the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter.  We drove down to the viewing site after church to see the Ark.

Howard went down the next day with Matt and they got to go out to the site.

After our time with Matt and Amy we drove over to Erin and David's, west of Indianapolis.  Their kids were out of school so we got to spend some time with them.

I even won a game of cribbage with Colter.  That does not happen very often.

Erin treated me to a day at Board and Brush for Mother's Day.  Erin, McKenna and I each did a project.  It was such a fun time.

We made homemade ice cream one night.  Yummy.  We made blackberry ice cream.  Of course we all had to have our turn at cranking.

McKenna has a turn.
After Clayton's turn he had to throw a ball back and forth with his brother.

McKenna and I usually do a sewing project.  She made three zipper pouches.  She does very well with her sewing.  It's been fun to work with her.

We have to get a pic with Grandpa and Grandma.

Erin lives near a cousin of mine.  So on our way out of town we met for brunch. It was so much fun.  The Bread Basket in Danville, IN is just a home converted into an eating place.

My breakfast was quiche, fresh fruit and toast.

It was so much fun to catch up with cousins.

Nancy and I were the same age.  When I visited them growing up I would sometimes be able to go to school with her at a one room school.  This was so neat for a city girl.

Howard and Ken.  Ken is Nancy's husband.  Sorry Ken, it's not a very flattering picture.

David and Butch.  Butch is Nancy's older brother. He and his wife Linda drove over from Il to have brunch with us.  (About 1 1/2 hrs)

Linda and Erin.

It was such a fun way to end our time in IN.

We were home for a few days, and then we drove over to Laurie's in eastern TN.  Brett was home and the kids were working most of the time.

Most of our meal was from the garden that night.  Brett caramelized a big pan of onions.  I cooked down some onion, zucchini, and squash from the garden.

We ate out on the deck.  How can you not like the view.

Laurie, Ann and Howard

One night we ate at the picnic table and then fixed a fire.  When the kids got home from work they sat around the fire with us and we roasted marshmallows to make some-mores.

When the kids were at work on Friday, Laurie, Howard and I went down to Chattanooga to see The National Parks Adventure at the IMAX theatre.  It was really good.  Brett missed it because he was on a trip.

I didn't get pics of all the kids.  They were all working a lot.

Hannah works at the Ocoee Retreat Center about a mile from the house.  Chase, Daria and Hunter all work there also.  Noah works at a gas station and Hardee's in Ocoee.

Chase is one of the managers at the retreat center.

My next post will be from Alaska.  We leave in two days to go up there for 8 weeks.  We would appreciate prayers for our strength to hold out.  We love what we do, but it takes a lot of work!
